Can’t keep away

Not posting every week has made my life a bit less stressful. I want to keep you updated on some photos that I took during the last 4 weeks, nothing special, just my personal favourites. All are scans of the handprinted photos.

Week 34 – Will not post any more photos until the end of the project

Print Friendly

Developing, scanning, posting and writing every week just did not work in the end. To make my life less stressful I have taken the decision not to post any more photos from the project until I’m done in August. In the meantime, I might write some articles about darkroom work or other things that I find interesting but it will not be on a weekly basis.

I will leave you with two recent favourites (I got the chance to test the Mamiya 7ii). Thank you for all your support so far!

One year, one camera, one lens, one film (week 30)

Print Friendly

It was a good week, not in terms of the number of rolls, but in terms of result, there where probably 5 to 6 photos that I consider keepers (not great but keepers). I’m struggling more and more with finding the time to shoot and develop every week, so from now on it could be that the posts here become more infrequent. My day job is very busy at the moment, but I will do my best to update you once a week.

I was out with my flash again and I like the results it gives me, especially in the grey weather which is usual in Zurich at this time of the year, spring still seems far away, but I can’t wait to do more shadow as well as morning and evening sun work.

My personal project is also moving along, I hope I will be able to show you the results sometime this autumn, it’s more of a documentary project than street photography, but I try to mix the elements a bit. Let’s see what the end result brings.

I have also set-up a darkroom at home, will write a separate post about that with photos once I find the time. So this is it for now, below are my top three pick for the week, hope you like them.

One year, one camera, one lens, one film (week 29)

Not much to say about the past week, I was busy working on my long term project, so did not have much time for “normal” street. Below my 2 favourites. Oh and yes, these are no take with the M6 but with a GR1v, my M6 is in need of a bit of rest so for the coming weeks I will have to give up on the 1 camera, 1 lens and switch. Same film though, focal length is 28mm instead of 35mm. Forgive me for my sins!

One year, one camera, one lens, one film (week 28)

I really enjoyed the zoo last week so I decided on short notice to head up there again over lunch one of the days last week. These two rolls were the result. Not much more to write this time. Next week I hope to be able to write a bit more about the darkroom I’m putting together in the cellar and maybe even show my first prints from there. As always the top picks below.

One year, one camera, one lens, one film (week 27)

Had a good week, with a great finish, went to the Zoo with my daughter. Not only was she happy, but I got a couple of ok photos as well. Combining pleasure with pleasure! I also started of my new project this week, I will not post anything from this until it is finished, hopefully sometime by the end of this year. One of the two rolls from this week was used up almost entirely for my new project.

I also have to admit that I bought another camera (I hang my head in shame), have not used it yet though. I find that although my M6 is relatively small, I only take it with me 80% of the time, for the other 20% I need something that can fit in my front jeans pocket. I went ahead and got a Ricoh GR1v. Yes, I know it’s cheating, but if it let’s me get even more good photos, why not?

Below, is the top pick from this weeks rolls. As always let me know what you think.

One year, one camera, one lens, one film (week 26)

Freezing cold week! Almost froze my fingers off a couple of times. Since the winter weather continues to give me grey skies, I thought I would continue to improve on my flash work. I have to say that I enjoy it more and more, especially when the light is bad, like most winter days here in Zurich. I even went ahead and ordered some wireless sync gear, should be here next week.

Let me know what you think about this weeks catch. My personal favourite is No. 2.

HCSP Selection gallery

Spent over 3 hours going through the HCSP pool on Flickr and created a gallery of my favourites. There are some great stuff in the pool, funnily enough most of my favourites are towards the back of the pool. Check out the gallery here!

One year, one camera, one lens, one film (week 25)

I really enjoyed this week, I pushed myself past my comfort zone and used an off camera flash for both the rolls. It was a huge hurdle for me to overcome the fear of flashing people, but after the first couple of times I realized that a “thank you” or a small comment like “nice glasses” goes a long way. It was my first time out with a flash so I’m a flash virgin, but I do think that a flash has it’s uses in street photography. Although I’m sure that I will not become a religious “flasher”, I did really enjoy the experience and will continue to use flash when the light allows. I have picked my weekly favourites, have a look and see what you think, comments are always welcome. BTW if anyone should be interested all of these where shot at f16, 1/50 sec and the flash set to manual (f16, ISO400).

Although I only managed one roll this week, I am happy with the overall result. The first two photos, are of locations that I have tried to capture before, but I have not been very happy with the results, this week though I think both turned out ok. The other 3 are photos from a carnival I happened to pass on the weekend. Not a week to write home about, but overall ok. Let’s see what the next one can bring, I will be spending some days in Germany. Happy shooting to you all and let me know what you think of the top picks below.
